Police/Park Visitor Services Building

The Johnson County Parks and Recreation Department (JCPRD) commissioned HTK to design and construct a new building at the JCPRD Administration campus to replace the functions of the current Park Police Building and the John Barkley Visitors Center. The JCPRD Park Police/ Park Visitor Services building is planned to have a flexible and space efficient layout with room for growth. The construction of the Police/Park Visitor Services Building will allow the staff that frequently interact with the public to be consolidated into one, convenient location where customers can receive permit sales, customer service, park information and program registration.

The Park Police and Park Services areas will be designed to share a common customer service reception area, which will be located at the front door of the Administration Building to be conducive to front of house functions. In addition, the space is planned to be energy efficient and have secure data/ CCTV, and IT areas. Additional design considerations include areas that will provide adequate storage for the police property room, the armory, the police records, archives, and bicycle storage. There will also be work areas for janitorial and maintenance functions, bike repairs, gun cleaning as well as locker rooms with storage for police uniforms and gear. The JCPRD Police/ Park Visitor Services building will allow convenient access to park patrol vehicles and improve the visibility to the park.
