Solomon USD 393 Capital Improvements

HTK partnered with Solomon USD 393 on their informational campaign and worked alongside the “Vote Yes” committee. We contributed to developing strategy, designing collateral for both groups, and attending committee and town hall meetings.

The largest part of this project was to replace an aging elementary school building with a new elementary wing attached to the existing Jr/Sr High school building. The addition houses PreK-5th grade students, with two of the 12 classrooms in a storm shelter that serves the entire elementary wing. The approach to the new classrooms was collaboration, with operable walls being provided between neighboring classrooms, as well as increasing the amount of natural light each classroom has access to. The addition blends seamlessly into the existing building on the exterior, making use of similar masonry details and colors to tie the entire building together.

Other parts of the project include the complete renovation of the metal/wood shop and classroom, as well as updates to finishes in a locker room and restrooms. A large cafeteria and kitchen addition serves the entire school. This provides increased eating space and a new production kitchen. The project features high efficiency HVAC systems, continuous insulation throughout the new additions, a facade that is sourced from local brick manufacturers to reduce freight, and elimination of old, inefficient glazing systems on the wood shop building.
