HTK Architects was selected to renovate a former Armory building for a new adult career and technical education facility in East Topeka. This project is a partnership between GO Topeka and Washburn Tech to address a need for adult education opportunities in East Topeka. The renovation provides classroom and low-fi simulation space for healthcare tech programs and general adult education classrooms and computer labs. The facility also offers workshop labs and outdoor space for building trades curriculum that will allow for entry level construction trades training. In addition to classroom space, the facility has administrative areas and a large community room at the building entrance. The design of the facility allowed for certain areas of the building to be exposed and used for training purposes in the building trades curriculum. Outdoor spaces around the building allow for outdoor learning spaces as well as general community gathering. This project will provide the necessary adult career and technical education in East Topeka while allowing for growth of future curriculum opportunities.
