State of Kansas Energy & Service Center

The new State of Kansas Energy & Service Center is designed to provide a facility housing boilers, chillers and cooling towers used to heat and cool the Capitol Complex. Boilers will heat the Capitol Building, Landon, Memorial, Curtis office buildings and the Kansas Judicial Center. Chillers housed in the facility will cool the Capitol Building and augment cooling for the Landon and Memorial office buildings as needed.

The facility will also house the Kansas Highway Patrol / Capitol Police, assigned to provide security for the Capitol Complex, and will include office, meeting, dispatch and video monitoring spaces. In addition, electrical, lock, carpentry, plumbing and HVAC shops, associated management offices and meeting spaces will be provided for the Service Center. Warehousing facilities will be included to serve the Capitol Complex as well. A steam and chilled water tunnel will be constructed from the Energy & Service Center to connect to the Capitol Building Parking Garage and portions of the Capitol Building.
