Raymore-Peculiar School District, Lead Center

The Raymore-Peculiar School District purchased a vacant existing big box store for the purpose of a new Career and Technical Education facility. Named the LEAD Center for “Learning, Experiences and Discovery” the completed building will house new career pathways as well as their Enterprise and Design program. The current pathways include machining, electrical, HVAC, and elementary education. Future pathways include robotics and automation, plumbing, and cosmetology. Also included are a student cafe and a student-run storefront to work with local business partners. The interior of the building has large open areas for collaboration between the pathways and project-based learning. Community engagement with the facility is a large part of the future vision of the facility. At the heart of the building is a learning stair to a new mezzanine space and a special Makerspace for the students to use. Flexibility for future changes is key to the design.

The project also includes an ICC-500 safe room constructed entirely within an existing building, Learning stairs to a new mezzanine, Specialized Makerspaces, and flexibility for future programs.
